Burial service set Wednesday for unidentified infant found in Roseville park

A burial service, arranged by the Placer County Coroner's Office, will be held Wednesday morning for the unidentified baby girl whose body was found in Roseville's Saugstand Park in July.

The baby will be laid to rest after a brief service at 10 a.m. in the new Auburn Public Cemetery, 2040 Collins Drive, Auburn. The service is open to the public.

On the morning of July 8, Roseville park maintenance workers found a box hidden in bushes in Saugstand Park. Inside the box, carefully wrapped in a blanket and a plastic bag, was the body of a deceased newborn girl with the umbilical cord still attached, according to a Police Department news release. Officials said the baby appeared to have been dead for a few days, noting that there were no signs of traumatic injury, and she may have been stillborn.

The cause of death is still unknown, pending the final autopsy a report. No one has come forward to identify the infant.
