Fire crews responded to a call at 4:22 p.m. and arrived to find a half-acre of dry grass burning in a field east of Fiddyment Road just north of Blue Oaks Boulevard. Crews, aided by lower temperatures and calm winds, were able to contain the blaze at just under 8 acres, a Roseville Fire Department news release states.
Firefighters were on scene more than five hours mopping up hot spots. The fire burned into a grove of mature oak trees, making if difficult to fully extinguish, fire officials said. Crews patrolled the area through the night and into today to make sure there were no flare-ups.
No structures were threatened or damaged, and no injuries were reported.
