End-of-summer DUI arrests down in Sacramento County

By Debbie Arrington

Sacramento County law enforcement's late-summer campaign against drunk drivers saw fewer arrests than the same 17-day period last year.

During a national crackdown that started on Aug. 16, more than a dozen law enforcement agencies in Sacramento County arrested 381 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to the Folsom Police Department, which took part in the campaign.

That's down more than 7 percent compared to the same period last year. In 2012, the agencies made 412 arrests.

As of 6 a.m. Monday, no DUI-linked deaths were reported on Sacramento County roadways, according to the agencies. That's compared to five alcohol-related deaths on county roads and freeways during Labor Day weekend last year.

The campaign wraps up at midnight tonight. Traffic and patrol officers of local departments will focus on stopping and arresting impaired drivers. In addition, the California Highway Patrol will deploy all available officers onto freeways and county roads.
