Mark Richard Bevan (pictured), 21, of Auburn, was taken into custody early this morning at his home and was booked into Placer County Jail, according to a Rocklin Police Department news release.
Rocklin detectives received information Monday regarding a possible inappropriate relationship between a former walk-on assistant track coach and a female student. Based on information received from the victim, detectives determined that the sexual relationship had existed for about a month, but a "sexting" relationship allegedly had been occurring for an undertermined amount of time through the use of smartphones.
Inappropriate pictures of a sexual nature had been sent back and forth between the parties, police said. Bevan allegedly requested from and sent to the victim pictures of a sexual nature.
Bevan was booked on suspicion of offenses including unlawful sexual intercourse, contacting a minor with the intent for sex, arranging a meeting with a minor for sex and possession of obscene matter of a minor.
Roger Stock, superintendent of the Rocklin Unified School District, said Bevan's only employment with the district had been as an assistant walk-on coach this past spring and in spring 2012.
"We are cooperating fully with law enforcement," Stock said. "We always put student safety first."
Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call the Rocklin Police Department at (916) 625-5400.
