Jury convicts man of 2008 murder near Sacramento Executive Airport

A Sacramento Superior Court jury Friday convicted Ravinesh Singh of first-degree murder in the Oct. 13, 2008, south area shooting death of 22-year-old Joseph Montoya.

The same panel acquitted a second defendant of murder and manslaughter in the case, Tony Cong Van, but found him guilty on being an accessory to the killing after the fact.

According to court documents and testimony at trial, Singh, who is now 28, and Van, 26, had driven to a house in the 2600 block of Hing Avenue, near the Sacramento Executive Airport, on a marijuana deal.

When they got to the neighborhood, Singh saw Montoya, whom he suspected as being the gunman in the previous shooting of a relative. Singh got out of the car, shot Montoya once in the face and shot him three more times in the midsection.
