A high-speed chase along the streets of Sacramento accelerated onto eastbound Highway 50 on Saturday evening, resulting in the capture of a parolee at large with a history of firearms violations, said a Sacramento Police Department spokesman.
The incident began along X Street, when a SPD K-9 Unit officer pulled behind a burgundy-colored pickup truck to make a traffic stop. The driver "took off at a high rate of speed, failed to stop at several intersections, blew through red lights and got onto Highway 50 eastbound," said Sgt. Matt Young. The police cruiser continued the chase at speeds up to 95 mph until the unidentified driver exited on 59th Street.
"He abandoned the vehicle right around that area and started jumping fences," making his way through residential back yards, looking for a place to hide, Young said. Police officers set up a perimeter. The suspect was found within the perimeter and taken into custody without further incident, Young said.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of felony evading a police officer while in pursuit, possession of a stolen vehicle and for his parole warrants, Young said.
