A suspected pipe bomb has been rendered safe after it was found along a Florin Road on ramp to Highway 99.
About 9:30 a.m. today a Caltrans crew doing cleanup along the highway ramps at Florin Road discovered the object that appeared to be a pipe bomb. A California Highway Patrol bomb squad responded to the scene.
The object was found in the grass along one of the ramps. It was later determined that object was a hoax, a device made to look like a pipe bomb but was not explosive, according to the CHP.
At 11:35 a.m., the first attempt was made to render the suspected device safe. A second successful attempt was made at 12:20 p.m., an effort that convinced the CHP to open up Florin Road.
Two highway ramps at Florin Road opened at 1:50 p.m., according to CHP.
