A North Highlands man who surrendered to sheriff's deputies have a standoff earlier today likely will face charges of exhibiting a firearm at a peace officer and resisting arrest.
The 32-year-old man, who has not yet been identified, must be taken to a local hospital before he is booked in the Sacramento County Main Jail. The man must be cleared for incarceration after being hit with a rubber-bullet round, said Sacramento County sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos.
Deputies responded to the 3800 block of Meramonte Way after noon after reports of a man with a rifle seen in the neighborhood, Ramos said.
Deputies saw the man and ordered him to stop, but the man levelled the rifle in the direction of deputies and then ran inside the home, Ramos said.
The SWAT team was called to the scene, and some homes in the area were evacuated. The man was taken into custody shortly after 2 p.m.
