Three men shot following argument at North Highlands apartment

Three people are in the hospital, two with life-threatening injuries, following a shooting at a North Highlands apartment complex this afternoon.

Sacramento County sheriff's spokesman Lt. Tim Curran said a 911 call was received shortly after 3:30 p.m. regarding a shooting in the 3800 block of Madison Avenue. Deputies arrived and found two gunshot victims. One man hand been shot in the head and upper body, and the other had been wounded in the upper body. Both were transported to a local hospital.

About 30 minutes later, Curran said, a third man showed up and the hospital with gunshot wounds and indicated that he had been shot at the same location as the other two men.

Curran said none of the victims has been positively identified. He said all three are African American men.

Deputies were told that the two original victims were staying at the apartment complex, and heard a knock at the door. They answered the door and an argument ensued with the confrontation ending in the shooting. Investigators have not determined the motive for the shooting.

Curran said the suspect, who fled before deputies arrived, was described only as a black male.
