A Truckee man has been arrested after authorities alleged his actions behind the wheel cost the life of a motorcycle rider Monday and risked the life of child riding in his vehicle, Folsom police said.
The accident occurred around 2 p.m. Monday when a Volkswagen driven by Kaman Hobbs, 23, of Truckee, attempted to make an unprotected left turn from westbound Greenback Lane into the Negro Bar recreation area, said Sgt. Jason Browning, a spokesman for the Folsom Police Department.
The Volkswagen struck a motorcycle and pinned it against a van that was also traveling eastbound on Greenback Lane, police said. The motorcycle rider, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident blocked lanes of traffic, causing authorities to advise motorists to avoid the area for several hours afterward.
Hobbs was booked into Sacramento County jail under suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, driving without a license and driving with an unrestrained child under the age of 10, Browning said.
