Two construction workers were critically injured Wednesday in West Sacramento when a heavy metal object being positioned into a trench, slipped from a crane and fell onto them.
One of the men was injured on the head and the other on the leg in the industrial accident about 4 a.m. on southbound Jefferson Boulevard at 15th Street.
The men, part of a subcontracting crew for Pacific Gas & Electric, were digging a trench for a pipeline and were placing metal panels to support the ditch. West Sacramento Police Lt. Tod Sockman said a crane was lifting up a panel when the chain attached to the panel somehow slipped.
The metal object hit the men who were outside the ditch. Both were taken to the hospital.
Traffic is able to make it by the site of the accident this morning. Sockman said that the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health would likely investigate the incident.
