Submitted by: Shynesse, Carmichael
ANSWER: A Sacramento County jury convicted Terry Mitchell of voluntary manslaughter in the July 2005 stabbing death of his live-in girlfriend, 45-year-old Beverly Smith.
He was sentenced in September 2007 to 12 years in state prison, according to Superior court online records. Now 59 years old, Mitchell is at California State Prison, Solano in Vacaville.
According to stories in The Bee, Sacramento police received a 911 call about 9:40 a.m. July 3, 2005, from a woman screaming that a man had stabbed Smith in their house in the 7700 block of Billings Way in the Meadowview area. Smith was rushed to UC Davis Medical Center, where she died.
Mitchell turned himself in at the Sacramento County Jail later that day.
Police said the stabbing was an act of domestic violence. Smith reportedly was kicking Mitchell out of the house because she thought he was a bad influence on her son.
