A woman died this evening after her bicycle was struck by a Regional Transit bus at Florin Road and East Parkway in south Sacramento County.
California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer Michael Bradley said the accident occurred about 6:10 p.m. as the bus was eastbound on Florin Road at East Parkway.
He said the bicyclist, a 51-year-old woman, was at the southeast corner of East Parkway as the bus was pulling up to a bus stop just east of her. The bicycle tire was struck by the bus and the woman was propelled off the bike onto the ground. Bradley said she was run over by the right rear wheel of the bus.
The woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has not been identified.
Bradley said about 15 people were on the bus at the time.
He said CHP investigators hope video from a nearby gas station and possibly from a red-light camera at the intersection will help determine how the crash occurred.
