Bicyclist in fatal Carmichael crash is identified

The name of the bicyclist who was struck and killed by a sport utility vehicle last week in Carmichael has been released by the Sacramento County Coroner's office.

Richard Aaron Leeper, 21, of Sacramento was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision at 8:05 p.m. Thursday on El Camino Avenue, near Laurence Avenue.

Leeper was traveling in the wrong direction on El Camino Avenue when he was hit by the oncoming SUV, said Officer Lizz Dutton, California Highway Patrol spokeswoman.

Leeper didn't have a headlight on his bicycle and wasn't wearing a helmet, according to Dutton.
