Bicyclist killed in collision with SUV in Marysville

By Mark Glover

A 45-year-old male bicyclist was killed in a collision with a sport-utility vehicle late Thursday night in Marysville, according to the Yuba-Sutter office of the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said the bicyclist was traveling south on Simpson Lane, south of 10th Street, at about 10:37 p.m. when his bike was struck in the rear by a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander traveling in the same direction.

The SUV was being driven by a 25-year-old male.

CHP said the bicyclist was thrown off his bike and sustained fatal injuries. Officials said the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet, and the lighting equipment on his mountain bike was not functioning at the time of the collision.

The incident remains under investigation.

No other details have been released.
