Yolo County Coroner's officials identified the teenage boy killed early Thursday near Woodland when the car in which he was traveling crashed after veering off Interstate 5.
Killed was Alejandro Galvan Torres, 13, of Delhi, Merced County, said Mark Persons, a Yolo County Sheriff's spokesman.
Torres and his father, Galvan Audel, 39, of Vancouver, Wash., were passengers in a 2013 Toyota Corolla driven by Torres' cousin, Sergio Gomez-Sandav, 18, California Highway Patrol officials said.
About 4:55 a.m., the car went off I-5 north of County Road 22 and tumbled down an embankment, rolling over several times and partially ejecting Torres before coming to rest near County Road 118.
First responders pronounced Torres dead at the scene. Audel and Gomez-Sandav survived the wreck and were treated at the scene.
Gomez-Sandav told investigators he fell asleep behind the wheel, CHP officials said.
CHP officials said neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to factor in the fatal wreck.
