CHP: 100 pounds of marijuana discovered during traffic stop

pot 1.jpgA 23-year-old Illinois man is in custody in Placer County after 100 pounds of marijuana allegedly were discovered in his Jeep Cherokee during a traffic stop in Auburn, according to authorities.

Eduardo Angeles Jr. was arrested on suspicion of multiple charges, including possession of marijuana for sale and transportation of marijuana for sale, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Dave Martinez.

A CHP officer doing speed enforcement on Interstate 80 near Dry Creek Road stopped Angeles after the officer observed his Jeep Cherokee travelling about 90 miles per hour, Martinez said.

Further investigation with the help of the Placer County Sheriff's Department's Special Investigation Unit revealed the marijuana.

Martinez said Angeles was headed back to Illinois when he was stopped.

Angeles was booked into the Placer County Jail.
