CHP releases ID's of men injured in Soda Springs accident

By Barbara Barte Osborn
Bee Correspondent

TRUCKEE -- The California Highway Patrol's Truckee office has released the names of the two Placerville men injured -- one fatally -- in a solo rollover accident near Soda Springs on Monday morning.

The driver, Jose Natividad Baron Vazquez, 24, died from injuries suffered when his pickup truck left Interstate 80 and traveled down a steep embankment, colliding with large boulders and overturning.

His passenger, Joel Pelayo Rios, 22, although badly injured, was able to free himself from the vehicle and climb up to the highway, where motorists alerted the CHP of the accident.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not considered to be a contributing factor at this time, according to the CHP report.

Anyone with information regarding the accident, which is under investigation, is asked to call the Truckee CHP office, (530) 582-7570.
