The Sacramento County Coroner's office has released the name of a teenager killed by gunfire in broad daylight on Saturday.
The dead teen has been identified as Javillion Ward, 15, of Sacramento.
According to Sacramento police, the shooting was reported at 1:58 p.m. Saturday at a shopping center parking lot in the 4500 block of Mack Road near Franklin Boulevard. The incident started when a fight broke out between two groups. The fight escalated into a shooting when one person began firing, said Officer Doug Morse, Sacramento Police spokesman.
Multiple shots were fired, one of them striking Ward. The suspect reportedly fled on foot moments after the shooting.
Ward was transported to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead at 2:18 p.m.
Homicide detectives say several people fled the scene after shots were fired.
"Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed or were involved in this incident to please contact police," said Morse.
