Davis police seek suspect in attempted sexual assault

Davis police seek to find a man who reportedly tried to sexually assault a woman as she was returning to her residence Tuesday night.

The incident occurred about 10:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Alvarado Avenue near Anderson Road. The woman was returning to her residence and parked her vehicle in the parking lot. After retrieving her belongings from the vehicle, she was confronted by a man who pushed her back toward the vehicle, according to a Police Department news release.

Once they reached the vehicle, the man attempted to sexually assault the woman, police said.

The woman was able to defend herself and escape from the man.

When police arrived, officers checked the area but were unable to find the suspect.

The man was described as black, 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing about 220 pounds, bald, with a salt-and pepper beard and a wide nose. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and dark-colored pants.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could lead to the suspect's identity is asked to call the Davis Police Department's investigations division at (530) 747-5400.
