Fire sweeps through Rancho Cordova home but adjacent homes spared

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews had to move fast to prevent fire spreading to adjacent residences when fire swept through a Rancho Cordova home today filled with debris and personal items.

When firefighters arrived at the blaze in the two-story home in the 2800 block of Hyannis Way at about 9:30 a.m., the residence was fully involved in fire.

Upon arrival, crews sprayed water on fire inside the home and began a search for possible residents. Nobody was found in the house, which had boarded up windows.

Neighboring homes were just a few feet from the structure. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the blaze.

While the interior of the home and contents were destroyed by fire, the house still stands and neighboring homes were spared. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
