A Sacramento County man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a Sept. 2 kidnapping and carjacking in Lodi.
Richard Harvey, 51, was taken into custody without incident at his home in the 7700 block of Kalwani Circle. He was booked into the Lodi Police Department jail on suspicion of carjacking, kidnapping and conspiracy, a Lodi Police Department news release states.
On Sept. 2, officers responded to a report of a kidnapping and carjacking in the 700 block of South Stockton Street in Lodi. Police met with family members of the victim, who said they had been in contact with the victim by cell phone and determined that he had been released in Galt.
The victim told police that he had listed his vehicle for sale on Craig's List. He was contacted by a man and woman who arrived at his home and asked to take the vehicle for a test drive. The victim accompanied them, and during the test drive, he asked that they return to his home.
The suspects reportedly refused, and one produced what the victim believed was a handgun. The suspects dropped the victim off near Galt and fled in his vehicle.
During their investigation, Lodi detectives identified Harvey as one of the suspects. Sacramento County Sheriff's Department SWAT officers assisted in today's arrest.
Investigation in the case continues.
