Sacramento County sheriff's deputies arrested a 40-year-old man today following a shoplifting incident at Wal-Mart in which a suspect brandished a Taser at a loss prevention officer, according to authorities.
Deputies arrested Nikolayevi Yakimenko on suspicion of robbery as well as an unrelated charge of cultivation of marijuana after a grow was found at his home, sheriff's Sgt. Lisa Bowman said in a news release. Both are felonies.
The incident began about 6 a.m., when a loss prevention officer at a Wal-Mart on Antelope Road attempted to detain two people suspected of shoplifting, Bowman said.
The suspects resisted, and one brandished a Taser at the officer, threatening to hurt him if he followed, Bowman said.
The loss prevention officer wrote down the license plate of the vehicle the suspects used to get away and contacted the Sheriff's Department. When deputies arrived at the registered owner's home, the suspect vehicle was parked nearby, Bowman said.
Deputies were trying to make contact at the home when four people ran from the home. Three were caught; one was Yakimenko, Bowman said.
Deputies also arrested Igor Ivanov, 29, in connection with outstanding warrants and Natalya Yakimenko, 40. She was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor resisting arrest and felony cultivation of marijuana.
