Sacramento police have arrested a suspect in the stabbing of a loss prevention officer at the midtown Safeway.
The stabbing occurred shortly before 6 p.m. The suspect, who fled and was the subject of a police search, was taken into custody this evening by a police K 9 unit. No other details about the arrest were released Tuesday night.
The loss prevention officer was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center with injuries that are not life-threatening, according to police spokeswoman Officer Michele Gigante.
Police responded to the area of the store, at 19th and S streets, after reports of a stabbing. The loss prevention officer had attempted to stop a man who the officer suspected of shoplifting, Gigante said.
The suspect then ran from the scene.
