Cal Fire crews plan to conduct a prescribed burn at Sly Park to keep the recreation area and nearby subdivisions protected from wild fire.
Crews plan to burn brush, litter from conifers and bear clover from underneath trees. The burn areas are near the corner of Sly Park Road and Park Creek Road in Pollock Pines.
Vegetation burning will happen between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. over the next few weeks.
Control lines will be in place and fire crews with firefighting equipment will stand by to maintain control of the fire. The effort will begin with a small test burn at the beginning of each day to ensure conditions are right.
If conditions are favorable, firefighters will ignite blazes around the perimeter, allowing a low-intensity, slow burn to consume fuels on the forest floor.
The use of a prescribed burn mimics the natural process, providing significant fire hazard reduction, according to Cal Fire.
