Two men sentenced in stabbing death near homeless camp

Two men who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the stabbing death of a Gold River man two years ago near an American River homeless camp were sentenced today to state prison.

Dawayne Jerrold Lawrence, 37, received a 69-year, eight-month term for the May 31, 2011, killing of Adam Michael Steinbach, 27. Co-defendant Frank Paul Haney, 54, who lived in the homeless camp with Lawrence, was sentenced to 12 years by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Michael P. Kenny.

Authorities said the killing resulted from an unpaid drug debt by Steinbach and a robbery of the victim near Del Paso and Northgate boulevards.
