Attic fire damages Carmichael day care center

preschool fire.PNGChildren at a Carmichael day care center escaped injury this afternoon when a fire broke out at the facility.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews responded shortly after 2 p.m. to a report of a structure fire at Wee Tymes Playschool in the 2900 block of Root Avenue.

Ten children were napping when staff members were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors, according to a district news release. The building was evacuated without injuries.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the attic (pictured). Thirty-six firefighters quickly confined the fire to the attic and extinguished it, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
