A Dodge Neon plowed into a tree off of Interstate 5 near Woodland early Tuesday morning, killing one person and injuring another, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A Crescent City man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene, and a Chico man, also in his 20s, was taken to a nearby hospital with major injuries, said Sgt. Andy Hill with the CHP.
It was not clear which man was the driver.
The accident occurred at 6:31 a.m. when a Dodge Neon was going southbound on I-5 near the West Street off-ramp, on the north side of Woodland, when it veered off the road and crashed into a tree.
The collision caused one man to be ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was unknown what caused the crash. "It is still under investigation," said Hill.
There was no impact to traffic on I-5, as the accident occurred off the highway.
