Citrus Heights police seek witnesses to fatal attack on disabled man

Christopher Sorgani.jpgCitrus Heights police detectives, police volunteers and civilian employees will hit the streets tonight seeking information in the beating of a man Oct. 23 in the 7700 block of Greenback Lane.

They will be canvassing the area, interviewing pedestrians and handing out fliers in hopes of finding someone who witnessed the attack that resulted in the death of 49-year-old Christopher Sorgani (pictured) of Citrus Heights four days later.

Sorgani, who had physical disabilities, was attacked about 6:30 p.m. Oct. 23. Officers responding to the report of an assault found Sorgani on the sidewalk with serious head injuries. He died Oct. 27 as a result of the injuries.

Police say the assailant appears to have been a stranger with no known motive

A witness reported seeing Sorgani being struck by another man on the sidewalk in front of the Spring Creek Apartments. The man was described as white, in his 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a thin build and wearing dark clothing.

Because the attack occurred on a public sidewalk paralleling Greenback Lane during a time of heavy traffic, police officials say they are confident that others witnessed the assault and may have information that could help identify the attacker.

Anyone with information pertaining to the case is asked to call Detective Chad Rothwell at (916) 727-5833, or the Citrus Heights Police Department, (916) 727-5500. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can call (916) 443-4357 or (800) 222-7463.
