Pet oxygen mask used to revive cat at Citrus Heights fire

Rescued cat.PNGA cat survived a fire at at Citrus Heights home this afternoon thanks to pet oxygen masks donated to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District earlier this year.

Fire crews responded about 4:30 p.m. to the report of a structure fire with visible flames in the 6600 block of Golden Rain Court. They arrived to find a fire in the garage of a single-story house.

Firefighters were able to confine the fire to the garage.

During their search of the home, they found and removed three cats, two of which were dead. The third was barely breathing, but firefighters immediately treated it and transported it to a local veterinarian, said Capt. Jon Rudnicki.

In June, the fire district received 75 pet oxygen mask kits as a donation from Invisible Fence Brand, according to a district news release. Fire crews now carry these kits on their trucks and engines.

The rescued cat was reported doing well and resting comfortably this evening.
