Two men sought in connection with Sutter County homicide

Velasquez.PNGHolcomb.PNGThe Sutter County Sheriff's Office announced today that it is seeking two men in connection with a homicide that occurred Saturday in Live Oak.

The department received numerous 911 calls about 6:30 p.m. Saturday reporting multiple gunshots fired in the area of MG Liquor in the 2900 block of Pennington Road. Deputies arrived to find a man lying in the parking lot at the liquor store. Emergency medical personnel attempted life saving measures, but the man, later identified as 36-year-old Marcos Tinoco of Live Oak, was pronounced dead at the scene. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.

An investigation by deputies and the Sutter County Gang Task Force subsequently identified Eduardo Ornelas Velasquez (left photo), 27, of Live Oak, as a suspect in the shooting, and James Patrick Holcomb (right photo), 22, also of Live Oak, as a person of interest in the case. Sheriff's officials said Holcomb has a current warrant for his arrest for attempted homicide relating to a shooting that occurred in Live Oak in June 2012. They said both men are validated members of the Norteno Criminal Street Gang and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information regarding the the case is asked to call Sgt. David Whiteaker at (530) 822-7307, or leave an anonymous tip a www.suttersheriff.org.
