A 14-year-old girl was taken in custody, accused of vehicle theft and reckless driving, after leading police on a vehicle chase through Woodland this morning.
Officers were dispatched about 11:42 a.m. to 250 Buckeye St. regarding an individual recklessly driving a red Mitsubishi Eclipse in the area. An officer spotted the vehicle in the area of Cottonwood and West Cross streets and learned upon checking the license plate that it had been reported stolen.
Before the officer could approach the Mitsubishi, the driver sped off, according to a Police Department news release. The officer gave chase, using emergency lights and siren.
The vehicle traveled surface streets through the southwest area of Woodland, reaching speeds of 70 mph, police said. Other officers joined in the approximately nine-minute pursuit.
The driver stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of the Windemere Apartments at 655 Cottonwood St. The 14-year-old driver, a Woodland resident who was alone in the vehicle, was subsequently taken into custody without incident.
She was booked into the Yolo County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of recklessly evading a police officer and vehicle theft.
Police said no one was injured during the pursuit.
