Girl, 14, helps capture burglar at her Granite Bay home

A 14-year-old girl's quick thinking led to the capture of an El Dorado Hills man who allegedly attempted to break into her Granite Bay home Wednesday, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Office.

Mitchell Paul Leahy, 34, (pictured) was being held on $175,000 bond at the Placer County jail in Auburn Thursday. He is facing charges of burglary, receiving stolen property, identity theft, committing a crime while on bail, possessing a firearm in the commission of a felony and giving a false identity.

The sheriff's office said shortly before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, a 14-year-old girl was alone at her Barton Road home when she heard a knock at the front door. She did not answer but called her mother, who was away from the home, to tell her about the incident.

Police say suspected burglar nabbed after he napped behind house

Police say they apprehended a suspected burglar because he decided to take a nap in the shed behind the victim's home on Saturday.

Daniel Chaconas, 68, (pictured) was booked in the Sacramento County Jail for burglary.

Shortly before 1:17 p.m. Saturday, police reported, a resident returned home in the 1300 block of 26th Street, found the house locked inside and went around to the back of the house. The owner saw the suspect and called police.

When they arrived, officers said they found Chaconas inside a shed on the property. They later determined that Chaconas had broken into the house, ate some food, and took a nap. He was awakened when the resident returned home.
