Man sentenced to prison for drug offenses, child endangerment

A man who pleaded no contest to drug, weapons and child endangerment charges was sentenced today to 19 years in state prison.

Corey Anderson, 32, pleaded to charges of transporting cocaine, cocaine sales, being a felon in possession of a firearm and child endangerment, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney's office news release. He also admitted to a prior drug sales conviction, a prior strike and an out-on-bail enhancement. He was sentenced by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Kevin McCormick.

On Aug. 24, 2012, Corey Anderson and his brother, Cushi Anderson, were pulled over in a vehicle stop. A search of the car revealed more than 27 grams of cocaine, 2 pounds of marijuana, $2,000 in cash and narcotics sales paraphernalia, officials said.

Police: Babysitter may have given pot to 9-month-old

Sacramento police officers are investigating a case in which a 9-month old baby boy may have been given pot by his babysitter.

At 11:11 p.m. Saturday, police responded to Kaiser Permanente Hospital, 6600 block of Bruceville Road, on a report that a baby had been brought into the emergency room and had tested positive for THC, a chemical usually found in marijuana.

The mother had picked up her child from the babysitter and noticed that the baby was acting strangely, so the mother immediately brought him to the hospital.

Child Protective Services has been notified, and officers are continuing to investigate the case.

Father arrested for running across I-5 with 7-year-old son

jeffrey.JPGA father who allegedly ran across an interstate highway with his 7-year-old son was booked into jail today, police said.

Jeffrey Kuykendall, 43, (pictured) was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on a count of child endangerment. Bond was set at $75,000.

At 8:48 a.m., police responded to a call of a man running across I-5, near the 1100 block of Second Street, with a small child. It was found that Kuykendall and his son had run across I-5 to the center divider, waited for a break in the traffic, and continued to the other side of the freeway.

Officials said the father is from Shasta Lake and had been visiting the area.

The boy was taken into protective custody after his father was arrested.
