Star Ginger food truck coming to UC Davis

By Bill Lindelof

The Star Ginger food truck begins rolling at UC Davis on Tuesday.

Restaurateur Mai Pham entered into a licensing agreement in May with UC Davis Dining Services to bring a Southeast Asian food truck to the campus. The state-of-the-art statinless steel kitchen will serve complimentary samples from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Silo Union on Hutchison Drive, according to a press release.

"This food truck is like our Star Ginger restaurant but on wheels," said Pham, owner of Star Ginger Asian Grill & Noodle Bar and Lemon Grass restaurants in Sacramento. "We take great ingredients and cook everything fresh. For students, they can grab a banh mi or Green Curry rice bowl right between classes."

The truck will serve banh mi, Vietnamese sandwiches stuffed with a choice of Thai BBQ Chicken, Five Spice Pork or Lemongrass Tofu. Each sandwich is layered with pickled daikon, carrots, cucumbers, cilantro and chilies.

The rolls are baked at Village Bakery in Davis. A variety of rice bowls will also be served.
