Will Capitol Dawg owner Mike Brown sell the world's most expensive hot dog today at his Midtown eatery?
A Guinness World Records adjudicator will be at the restaurant this afternoon to determine whether a Capitol Dawg customer actually purchases Brown's California Capitol City Dawg for $145.49.
(A third of its sales will benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children.)
Sacramento-based Raley's supermarket chain has issued a statement explaining why it is not selling a new flavor of Ben & Jerry's ice cream.
"Schweddy Balls," a limited-edition flavor gets its name from the punchline of a popular "Saturday Night Live."
"We are aware of the controversy and consumer backlash associated with this limited edition ice cream flavor and we have made the decision to not place this particular product on our shelves. We invite our customers to select from our nearly 500 varieties of ice cream, which include premium flavors, frozen yogurt and even non-dairy options," spokeswoman Ashley Zepernick said in a prepared statement.
The weekly Wednesday farmer's market at Cesar Chavez Park now features a booth where shoppers can donate fresh produce to the River City Food Bank.
Senior Gleaners - which helps food banks get healthy food into the hands of hungry people - worked with the River City Food Bank to launch the program earlier this month. The idea: shoppers buy a little extra at the weekly downtown market and donate it at the "Giving Fresh" table.
Cesar Chavez Park is across from City Hall at the corner of 10th and J streets.
The market runs on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays through the end of October.
