There's no secret to Rick Redding's game plan these days.
The El Dorado coach prefers a running game, and no wonder. He has two tough backs, a mixture of burst with C. J. Wheeler and brawn with Boise State recruit Trevor Peterson, who was moved from full-duty tight end to the backfield to get him the ball.
Wheeler had 183 yards and three touchdowns and ran for two two-point conversions, and Peterson had 63 yards and two scores in El Dorado's 35-28 Pioneer Valley League victory over Lincoln.
The Cougars have gone 3-1 since an 0-2 start. Keep in mind that this is the team that stunned Whitney a year ago, and El Dorado is better this time around.
Wheeler has 748 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, averaging 9.47 yards a carry. Peterson has 551 and four scores (and three more receiving) and is averaging 9.3 yards a pop.
All told, El Dorado had 359 yards against Lincoln, meaning Peterson and Wheeler owe the offensive lineman some steak dinners.
