Beware the winless.

Franklin of Elk Grove is slow out of the gates at 0-3, but it's a misleading sputter. The Wildcats are dangerous. They have size, speed, good line play and a coaching staff headed by first-year man Brian Prahl, and they bounded into the season talking playoffs.

These days, they're talking a win, and it may happen Friday at Folsom. Yes, the Bulldogs are off to a rousing 3-0 start under coach Kris Richardson and impressive play-making quarterback David Graves (nine touchdowns, one interception, a lot of poise).

But don't think for a minute that Richardson isn't leery. Franklin lost 18-14 to Pleasant Grove in an opener, tiring down the stretch. It lost in the final minute to Roseville.

Beware the hungry.
