For those of us who thought the Sierra Valley Conference was a two-team race between No. 8 Christian Brothers and No. 13 Ponderosa, we got kicked in the teeth Friday night.
Oak Ridge, a team that lost its first four games (all nonleague), is now the league leader at 3-0 after beating the Falcons 27-14. CBS fell into a three-way tie with Ponderosa and Galt for second at 2-1, although the Bruins barely beat the Warriors, 6-3.
Is it possible that perennial powers Del Oro at 0-2 (and 2-5 overall) in the Sierra Foothill League and Elk Grove at 0-2 in the Delta Valley Conference might miss the playoffs completely this season?
So much for 5-0 starts. Bella Vista is now 0-2 in the Capital Athletic League and West Campus is the same in the Capital Valley Conference after going unbeaten in the nonleague season.
Wow. Wouldn't it be fun if Granite Bay, Grant, Casa Roble, Whitney, Nevada Union, Del Campo and Folsom were in the same league. Of course they wouldn't be a combined 48-0.
