On Sept. 11, Laurynne Chetelat placed second for Cal in the Hornet Jamboree at Granite Regional Park. She covered the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 52 seconds in the women's division, won by Cal, which also won the USF Invitational on Sept. 4.
Chetelat, a junior for the Bears, sat out last season after transferring from Stanford.
As a Davis senior, Chetelat was The Bee's Girls Athlete of the Year for cross country and track and field. In the spring of 2008, she was honored by the River Cats with the second annual Vicki Kockinis McDermott Memorial Award, honoring the area's top prep female athlete.
In the CIF State Track and Field meet her senior season, Chetelat finished second (by 0.38 seconds) in the 3,200 meters to Jordan Hasay of Mission Prep of San Luis Obispo.
In the CIF State Cross Country Championships, she won the Division I race, covering the 5K course at Fresno's Woodward Park in 17:18.
While at Stanford, Chetelat earned second-team All-Pacific-10 Conference honors and all-region honors with her ninth-place finish at the NCAA West Regional in cross country.
