Top-ranked Grant rolls Edison 56-0; Shaq Thompson 6 TDs

Another game, another rout, another monster effort by Shaq.

Junior tailback Shaq Thompson scored on runs of 3, 3, 58 and 6 yards in the first half and added a 1-yard run and a 32-yard interception return for a score in the third quarter as the Grant Pacers stormed to a 56-0 rout of the Edison Vikings tonight in a nonleague road game.

Grant, top ranked by The Bee and in the state and No. 3 nationally, led 42-0 at the half and played reserves throughout the final two quarters in moving to 4-0. Thompson had 206 yards on 17 carries and tailback Ference Lang rushed for 107 yards on seven carries and scored on runs of 7 and 22 yards.

Grant came up with two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and had seven sacks. Washington Huskies coach Steve Sarkishian, interested in a number of Grant stars, attended the game.

Grant plays at longtime section power Merced on Oct. 1 and opens Delta Valley League play on Oct. 8 at home against No. 20 Elk Grove. It will be Grant's first game in that league as realignment shifted the Pacers from the Metropolitan Conference.
