List grows as letter of intent signing approaches

Wednesday is national letter of intent signing day for high school athletes planning to pursue college athletic careers.

The Bee will provide ongoing coverage from signing ceremonies and post updates online throughout Wednesday morning and afternoon. You can find stories from Joe Davidson here as well as on Facebook and Twitter.

The following is an updated list by The Bee's Joe Davidson of football players from the Sacramento region who have given verbal commitments and are expected to sign letters of intent:

ROBERT ASH

Position: Defensive line

High school: Cosumnes Oaks

College choice: Boise State

Comment: UCLA still wants him badly because he can pursue the passer and chase down ballcarriers.

JONATHAN BIAS

Position: Linebacker

High school: Pleasant Grove

College choice: UC Davis

Comment: Cerebral, tough and versatile, he's the ideal stopper for Aggies.

BURTON DeKONING

Position: Linebacker

High school: Folsom

College choice: Nevada

Comment: He played with an injured wrist all season; he can make sacks and hammer ballcarriers.

NATE FALO

Position: Defensive line

High school: Inderkum

College choice: San Jose State

Comment: Tough and proud, he overcame a knee injury and is headed to the one school that stayed loyal to him.

DANO GRAVES

Position: Quarterback

High school: Folsom

College choice: Air Force

Comment: Seemed certain to choose Sac State, but Air Force offense looks like a fine fit.

MARCUS HENDRICKS

Position: Linebacker/tight end

High school: Folsom

College choice: Air Force

Comment: Joining his Bulldogs teammate Graves at the academy.

ANDREW HUNTER

Position: Defensive tackle

High school: Rosemont

College choice: UC Davis

Comment: First Rosemont player to receive a football scholarship.

TU'UTA INOKE

Position: Athlete

High school: Burbank

College choice: Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

Comment: He can play quarterback as a running and passing threat; he's also a superb prospect at defensive back.

ANTHONY KING

Position: Wide receiver

High school: Franklin

College choice: Eastern Washington

Comment: His 59 catches for 1,256 yards speak volumes.

BRYAN LANE

Position: Linebacker/tight end

High school: Christian Brothers

College choice: Nevada

Comment: He's fast, physical and versatile; the area pipeline to Reno continues.

JIMMY LAUGHREA

Position: Quarterback

High school: Rocklin

College choice: Boise State

Comment: The Broncos are as eager to get him into Idaho as he is to wear the blue and orange.

JORDAN MATANANE

Position: Tailback

High school: Oak Ridge

College choice: Sacramento State

Comment: Good addition for the Hornets -- a running back with size.

VEI MOALA

Position: Defensive line

High school: Grant

College choice: Cal

Comment: The dominating run stopper and athletic marvel is also an ideal leader and student.

ARTICE NELSON

Position: Safety

High school: Del Campo

College choice: UC Davis

Comment: He's smart, crafty and physical; yet another Del Campo talent for the Aggies.

MARCUS PAIGE-ALLEN

Position: Defensive line

High school: Sheldon

College choice: Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

Comment: The bench-press marvel and run stopper is also a fine student and young man.

DARRYL PAULO

Position: Linebacker

High school: Grant

College choice: Washington State

Comment: Great senior year featured 150 tackles.

T.J. POLOAI

Position: Offensive line/defensive line

High school: Burbank

College choice: Washington State

Comment: He's athletic, aggressive and eager to help coach Paul Wulff right the ship in Pullman.

JORDAN RICHARDS

Position: Athlete

High school: Folsom

College choice: Stanford

Comment: The scholar can play nearly anywhere - wide receiver, running back, defensive back - and his SAT scores are impressive, too.

JAMES SAMPLE

Position: Safety

High school: Grant

College choice: Washington

Comment: He's exceptionally fast, a hard hitter, and has good instincts; he turned down other major offers.

MANSEL SIMMONS

Position: Tight end

High school: Sheldon

College choice: Portland State

Comment: At 6-foot-5 and 231 pounds, he's built right to hold down his end of the line.

TYLER TROSIN

Position: Wide receiver

High school: Folsom

College choice: Oregon State

Comment: He could be the area's all-time greatest receiver; he runs great routes and has great hands and great drive.

WILLIE TUCKER

Position: Wide receiver

High school: Oak Ridge

College choice: Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

Comment: He emerged as a senior; he has speed and technique - plus a drive to reach the end zone.

These are players with multiple offers who have yet to choose but are expected to sign Wednesday:
