Catching Up: Stephanie Tofft, Lincoln softball

stephanietofft.JPGFormer Lincoln High standout Stephanie Tofft leads the Northern Illinois softball team in batting with a .415 average through 17 games.

She was the Mid-Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for her play at the Colorado State Classic (March 4-6), won by the Huskies. In a 19-5 win over the host Rams, she was 4 for 4 with six RBIs. In the tournament, she batted .688 with 15 RBIs, and seven of her 11 hits were for extra bases. Tofft leads her team in several categories, including hits (22), RBIs (18), doubles (eight), multiple-hit games (eight) and slugging percentage (.679). She has started 17 games at three positions (catcher, right field, third base) for the Huskies (8-9), who play today at Sacramento State.

Tofft was a 2010 first-team All-Metro selection. She led the Zebras in batting (.624), doubles (nine), home runs (five), on-base percentage (.673), slugging percentage (1.024) and stolen bases (31). She was the Zebras' top pitcher with a 15-1 record, 0.94 ERA and 172 strikeouts.

Tofft was named to Cal-Hi Sports All-State medium-school team as a utility player last summer.
