In an early season softball duel featuring two of the area's top pitchers and best friends, Elk Grove defeated Pleasant Grove 1-0 on Tuesday.

UC Santa Barbara-bound Shelby Wisdom struck out 13, allowed two hits, doubled twice and scored the game's only run for Elk Grove. Ally Carda, who will pitch at UCLA next fall, struck out 10 and allowed five hits.

Both were members of the high-powered Sacramento Lady Magic Amateur Softball Association team.

Elk Grove (3-0), the defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division I champions, climbed to No. 1 in the country today in the latest Maxpreps.com. Xcellent 25 rankings. Pleasant Grove is No. 13
