Davis girls soccer ranked No. 1 nationally; Rio Americano No. 9

Davis High School has climbed to No. 1 in the nation in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America spring girls soccer rankings.

The Blue Devils (14-0-1), coached by Allen Carlson, were third in the NCSAA's initial poll.

Previously unranked Rio Americano (11-0-0), coached by Jennifer Smiley, is No. 9 in the top 20 poll.

On Tuesday, Davis defeated Grant 10-0 in a Delta Valley Conference match and Rio Americano topped Cordova 2-0 in a Capital Athletic League contest.

Davis is No. 1, Rio Americano No. 2 and Sheldon (10-2-0) No. 10 in the NSCAA Region VI rankings that include schools from California, Colorado, Alaska and Wyoming.

• Davis moved up two slots to No. 12 in this week's ESPN Rise Powerade 50 national poll.
