Elk Grove's Martinez wins two at Woody Wilson track meet

Elk Grove junior Nick Martinez was a double winner at tonight's Woody Wilson Classic at UC Davis.

Martinez won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.99 and also placed first in the 300 hurdles at 38.79.

Jesuit senior Stephen Boals just missed producing a double win. He easily won the shot put at 58 feet, 3.75 inches but lost to Granite Bay's James Kinloch based on who had the better distance on the second attempt (172-09 to 160-06) in the discus. Both finished with bests of 172-09.

State leader Katie Zingheim of Granite Bay won the girls pole vault at 12-5.50 while Davis' Ian Rock took the boys pole vault at 15-0.

The El Camino boys distance medley team broke its own 2010 record in the event in winning in 10:35.05. Piner also surpassed the old mark of 10:43.42 in placing second at 10:35.57.

Grant won the 4x100 boys relay (42.28); Rocklin the 4x200 boys relay (1:30.61); Woodcreek the 4x800 boys relay (8:26.04) and Pondoersa the 4x800 girls relay (9:45.63).

Among other individual highlights:

• Kennedy senior Breonntae Snelling won the boys 100 in 10.84.

• Oak Ridge senior Samantha Ralstin won the girls 800 in 2:13.47.

• Oakmont sophomore Karlie Garcia won the girls 3200 in 10:50.41.

• Oak Ridge senior Matt Redden defeated senior Noel Frazier of California-San Ramon on jumps in winning the boys high jump at 6-6.

• Rocklin sophomore Leah Carter defeated Oakmont sophomore Brie Shea on jumps 5-0.25 feet.
