Monterey Trail grad's walk-off hit upends William Jessup

The second-seeded Simpson University Red Hawks came from behind to knock off top-seeded William Jessup University 4-3 in nine innings today at the the NAIA Cal/Pac West Regional qualifying softball tournament at Azevedo Park in Rocklin.

The Red Hawks' Chelsea Dunn, a freshmen from Monterey Trail High School, had a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to seal the victory for the Redding college.

Simpson advances to the 4 p.m. championship game on Saturday. William Jessup will play the 2 p.m. elimination game against third-seeded University of Great Falls, Mont.

Jessup opened the tournament by beating fourth-seeded Holy Names of Oakland 2-0 behind senior pitcher Erin Houston. She struck out nine, allowed five hits and also had an RBI single for the Rocklin college.
