National No. 1 Davis beats Wisconsin power 2-0 tonight

Junior striker Anna Gilbertson scored her 29th goal of the season in the first half and junior midfielder Courtney Jimenez added an insurance goal late in the second half tonight to lead Davis to a 2-0 win over visiting Catholic Memorial of Waukesha, Wis.

Davis (16-0-1) is the No. 1 team in the nation in the current National Soccer Coaches Association of America spring girls soccer rankings.

It also was a matchup of two former national champions. Davis won the mythical NSCAA national title in 1999, the only area girls soccer team to ever do so. Catholic Memorial won in 2000.

Catholic Memorial, the defending Wisconsin Division 2 state champions, is on a four-match trip through the Sacramento area.

The Crusaders lost 2-0 on Saturday to three-time defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division I champion St. Francis, played McClatchy on Monday and will play at Natomas 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
