Davis beats St. Francis 1-0 in D-I girls soccer championship

Courtney Jimenez' goal in the ninth minute of the first overtime led Davis (24-1-1) past St. Francis 1-0, ending the Troubadours' three-year reign as Sac-Joaquin Section D-I girls soccer champions, which included a penalty-kick win over the Blue Devils in last season's title game.

Jimenez scored in front of the goal after gathering in teammate Anna Gilbertson's 17-yard rocket that hit off the right post.

"I just happened to be in the right place at the right time," said Jimenez a junior. "All I could think about is how much these girls deserved the win, especially our seniors who have worked so hard and are such great players."

It was Davis' first section title since 2007 and fourth overall.
