Del Oro's Smotherman qualifies for CIF state golf finals

Del Oro junior Austin Smotherman shot an even-par 72 Monday to finish in a four-way tie for fourth at the CIF Northern California Regional boys golf championships at the Butte Country Club in Chico.

Smotherman qualifies to play as an individual in the CIF State Championship June 8 at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach.

In team competition, Davis finished fourth (380), Granite Bay (390) eighth and Del Oro ninth (397).

De La Salle of Concord won the team title with a 369 and will join Robert Lewis Stevenson of Pebble Beach (370) and Foothill of Pleasanton (370) as NorCal state team qualifiers.

Jonathan Garrick of St. Francis of Mountain View was the medalist with a four-under 68.
